Tried the George Hotel in Oakham for Sunday roast with the family. It’s now officially our family favourite! It was the best food, the warmest service, by all the staff. Especially the guy serving us - shamefully I didn’t get his name - but a huge credit to the place! Friendly, funny and made our dining experience even more special. All this set in a gorgeously decorated dining room. Food was 10/10 and very reasonably priced. Looking forward to eating there again soon. Highly recommend.

I have visited previously (not long after the current owners took over) and had a great meal and great service. I recently visited again, however, there have been some changes to front of house staff. The waiter this time was, quite frankly, rude. He was obviously trying to be funny and have 'banter' but it was misjudged and is not the level of service we expected at all. It has put me off returning. Food was again lovely, but service was disappointing and rude.

We loved the individuality of The George. If staying at such an old , unique building you have to expect creaky floors. The staff were wonderful, Paul and Gregory were both attentive ,sociable and professional.

Staff were fantastic and the food/ lounge etc was lovely… but the room wasn’t up to scratch. 155 for the room and breakfast was absolutely not worth it given the state of the room. The room was very old and really needs a revamp. See the pics for some of the issues. Oh and you can hear people in the other rooms when they move.. at 4am

Popped in for a quick coffee as usual venues were too busy. Essentially still the Whipper-Inn but nicely refurbished in areas. Pleasantly furnished it offers a bar & restaurant serving the usual drinks, sandwiches and main meals. £10 for sandwiches but we were only told when we ordered that one of our selection was no longer available. £7 for soup but delicious and served with a quality mini roll and decent butter. Service relaxed and friendly but it felt as though they were trying a bit too hard for a High Street establishment. The Ritz meets Fawlty Towers. Anyway, points for effort. Slightly overpriced but good quality and service.

In the heart of Oakham, the hotel has lots of character and the staff are both friendly and helpful. We dropped in for lunch and from the moment we entered we were looked after, made to feel welcome and could not have had a more enjoyable meal. The food was excellent, the menu was varied with something for everyone and the atmosphere of the dining room was relaxing. If you are looking for somewhere to stay or eat go to the George Inn.

We came back to the hotel for our 15 wedding anniversary as we got married at The Castle and then into the hotel for our wedding reception. Just the same as all those years ago, the staff went above and beyond to give you their best service. Friendly and extremely efficient throughout our stay, working hard either on reception or serving breakfast, even when we had lost our car keys, they continued to look after us and help us in the all ways possible. The breakfast was delicious, and the bed was very comfortable, perfect night's sleep both nights. Bar staff need a credit too as they gave us high standards of service, particularly the younger lady (so sorry for not taking the time to ask names)....lovely to sit in the lounge with a glass of wine and a beer or our preferred place was the big chairs in the snug next to the conservatory. Thank you also to Nick on reception who gave us a lovely goodbye and check out plus the brunette lady(sorry no name again) with glasses who did so much to support us and help with the lost keys. We will look forward to another stay in the future.

I have stayed at The George multiple times. It is right in the heart of Oakham, the hotel has so much character, and the staff is absolutely incredible. Greg runs the bar and is immensely talented and personable. Paul handles the front of house with the perfect balance of professionalism and personal touch. The restaurant has improved greatly in the last year and I have had multiple fantastic dinners. There are many enhancements coming over the next couple of years and the experience at The George is going to continue getting even better.

Excellent hotel. Very luxurious, great amenities and a beautiful “old” feel to this historical venue. We stayed in Grafton. The staff were very helpful and made our one-night stay fabulous. It was a good breakfast as well with a very nice, chatty waiter.

My husband and I happened upon this place while visiting Oakham and had a superb lunch. Rib eye steak and brisket burger, followed by Eaton Tidy and sticky toffee pudding - all superb! The maitre de was fantastic as were the other staff. Will defiueat there again should be fine ourselves over that way.

Absolutely fantastic experience here when we stopped overnight on a motorbike trip. Comfortable rooms, superb food and the staff could not have been better. Thank you!

This review is posted with a view to assisting the management/owners to invest in updating the rooms. Yes I stayed in a standard room , however it was not pleasant. Dated and broken shower head made taking a shower extremely challenging. Friendly staff, but rooms just not up to scratch....sorry, only being totally honest and accurate.
